Have you heard about the new 8th grade math teacher, basketball coach, and track coach? He is new to our school Gordon Russell Middle School and we had the privilege to do a Q&A with him. Here is what he had to say to us.

Q:Where did you teach before coming to GRMS?

A:Hedrick middle and Boring middle.

Q:Did you plan on being a teacher?

A:“Yes, something I planned on being.”

Q:Is math a subject you enjoy teaching to students?

A:“Yes, I enjoy teaching it because its something you use everyday.”

Q:Do you enjoy this school more than the last and why?

A:“Yes I do its a bigger school, and I think the faculty are extremely welcoming, and it just has a great feel.”

Q:What grade did you teach before coming here?

A:Seventh and eighth grade.

Q:How has your experience been at GRMS so far?

A:“It feels like home, like I’ve been here for years.”

Q:What’s your favorite grade to teach our of 6, 7, and 8th grade?

A:“Eighth, for the most part they are more mature than the sixth graders, and I like their sense of humor, plus they are getting ready to become high schoolers.”

Q:What’s your biggest highlight of this year so far?

A:“Playing in the staff student basketball game, and getting to know the Gordon Russell kids better.”

Q:What’s your motivation to keep teaching?

A:“I like the fact that each day can be different, each year can be different, and I just like being around kids.”

Q:What’s your favorite part about teaching?

A:“Probably watching the “aha” moments and the expression on faces when they figure something out that they didn’t know before until I taught them.”

Q:What are some of your hobbies?

A:I enjoy camping at Los lake in hood river, watching sports and collecting baseball cards.

Q:How long have you been teaching for?

A:I have been teaching for 27 years.

Q:About yourself?

A:I played college baseball Western Oregon outfield

I Grew up in Medford

I have one younger brother

I have one dog

I’m married and have two kids

As it sounds Mr. Evans is having a very good time at our school. He is a great coach and an amazing teacher. He’s made a lot of new memories and plans on making many more at our school.
